COUNSELLING

COUNSELLING DEPARTMENT

Our aim is to create a supportive environment where students feel heard, understood and equipped to deal with challenges. Through individual and group interactions, workshops, awareness programmes, expert-led sessions and career guidance, we work towards supporting students at every stage of their school journey.

Supporting Wellbeing. Shaping Futures.

At Scottish High International School, we believe that school is not only a space for academic learning, but also for personal growth, self-discovery and meaningful connections. The Counselling Department works closely with students as they navigate the many experiences that come with growing up—from managing emotions and relationships to making important academic and career decisions.

Our work is centred around two key areas: Social-Emotional Counselling and Career Counselling.

OUR APPROACH

Every student experiences challenges differently. For this reason, the work of the Counselling Department is guided by an approach that is flexible, developmentally appropriate and centred around the individual student.

Preventive

We believe that socio-emotional skills should be developed before difficulties become overwhelming. Workshops and awareness initiatives therefore form an important part of our work.

Developmental

Students' needs change as they grow. Our interventions and programmes are designed keeping different developmental stages in mind.

Student-Centred

Students are encouraged to express their perspectives, understand their own experiences and actively participate in finding ways forward.

Inclusive

We aim to create a space that recognises and respects individual differences, experiences and backgrounds.

Confidential & Ethical

Counselling is guided by professional ethics and school safeguarding responsibilities, with students' wellbeing and safety remaining central to the process.

OUR Two Pillars

Social-Emotional Counselling

Supporting students as they understand themselves better, manage emotions, navigate relationships and develop the skills needed to cope with everyday challenges.

Our work includes:

  • Individual counselling
  • Group interventions
  • Classroom and whole-school sessions
  • Wellbeing awareness initiatives
  • Support during transitions and challenging periods
Career Counselling

Helping students explore their interests and strengths while making informed decisions about subjects, higher education and future career pathways.

Our work includes:

  • Career and interest exploration
  • Subject and pathway guidance
  • University interactions
  • Career and domain expert sessions
  • Competitive examination guidance
  • SAT and CUET awareness sessions
  • Higher education exploration
  • Application and admission guidance

SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL Counselling

Creating space to understand, connect and grow.

A student's emotional and social wellbeing plays an important role in how they experience school, relationships and learning. The Counselling Department provides students with opportunities to pause, reflect and seek support when they need it.

Our approach is not limited to responding when a concern arises. We also work proactively with students through workshops, classroom discussions and awareness initiatives that encourage conversations around emotional wellbeing and healthy relationships.

What Do We Offer?

One-to-One Counselling

Individual sessions provide students with a private and supportive space to discuss concerns that may be affecting their wellbeing or school experience.

Students may seek support for concerns related to:

  • Managing emotions
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Exam-related pressure
  • Friendships and peer relationships
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Adjustment and transitions
  • Motivation and academic concerns
  • Family or personal difficulties

Group Interventions

At different points during the academic year, students may benefit from coming together around shared concerns or developmental needs. Small-group sessions allow students to learn from discussions, activities and shared experiences in a guided and supportive setting.

WORKSHOPS CONDUCTED BY THE COUNSELLING DEPARTMENT

The Counselling Department also conducts regular workshops and classroom sessions designed around the needs of students at different developmental stages.

These sessions combine discussion, activities and practical strategies, making wellbeing conversations relevant to students' everyday experiences.

Some of our sessions include:
Building Healthy Friendships
  • Helping students understand empathy, communication, boundaries and the qualities that contribute to positive relationships.
Responsible Social Media Use
  • Encouraging students to reflect on their online behaviour, digital footprint, screen habits and the impact of social media on wellbeing.
Overthinking & Stress Management
  • Helping students recognise patterns of overthinking and explore practical ways of managing stress and academic pressure.
Exam Stress Management
  • Providing students with strategies to manage expectations, organise their time and take care of their physical and emotional wellbeing during examinations.
Whole-School Wellbeing Initiatives

The Counselling Department regularly conducts age-appropriate sessions across grades to make conversations around wellbeing a more familiar part of school life.

Topics have included:

  • Understanding emotions
  • Exam stress and anxiety
  • Healthy friendships
  • Responsible social media use
  • Self-esteem and body image
  • Stress management
  • Resilience
  • Healthy relationships
  • Digital wellbeing
