Primary Years Programme

The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) is an internationally recognized educational framework designed for students aged 6 to 12. The programme aims to develop knowledgeable, inquiring, and compassionate learners who are equipped with the skills and mindset needed to thrive in an ever-changing and interconnected world.

Grade I - V

The PYP curriculum is built around six transdisciplinary themes: Who We Are, Where We Are in Place and Time, How We Express Ourselves, How the World Works, How We Organize Ourselves, and Sharing the Planet. These themes encourage students to connect learning across subject areas and apply their understanding to real-world situations.

Inquiry-based learning lies at the heart of the PYP. Therefore, students at Scottish High are encouraged to ask meaningful questions, investigate concepts, think critically, and develop solutions to problems. Rather than passively receiving information, learners actively construct their understanding through exploration, collaboration, and reflection. This approach helps develop essential skills such as creativity, communication, research, and critical thinking.

Beyond academics, the PYP at Scottish High strongly emphasizes the development of attributes that promote international-mindedness and responsible citizenship. Students learn to appreciate diverse perspectives, respect cultures, care for the environment, and take meaningful action within their communities. The PYP nurtures individuals who are not only academically capable but also empathetic, compassionate and demonstrate lifelong passion for learning.

As an IB PYP Coordinator, I am dedicated to fostering an engaging and challenging learning environment where every student feels supported, encouraged, and empowered to achieve their fullest potential. Scottish High is committed to nurturing learners who approach the future with confidence, curiosity, resilience, and a strong sense of responsibility. Through the PYP, we provide students with a strong foundation for future learning while inspiring them to become thoughtful, reflective, and active contributors to the world around them.

Ms. Seema Bhati, Primary School Director/PYP Coordinator

IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) Framework

Within the PYP frame work we focus on collaborative curriculum planning, inquiry-based teaching and learning, and meaningful assessment practices that support every child’s holistic development. Through transdisciplinary learning, students build conceptual understanding, critical-thinking skills, agency, and international-mindedness while making real-world connections. We strongly value the partnership between school and parent which is nurtured through Home Visits. During Units of Inquiry, parents are invited as guest speakers and reading programme volunteers to enrich learning through real-life experiences and perspectives.

Student agency and action remain central to the PYP. Student’s active participation in awareness rallies, community initiatives, and student-led actions connected to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During the PYP Exhibition, students inquire into real-world issues and take meaningful action by organizing initiatives such as awareness campaigns and blood donation drives.

Guided by the IB Learner Profile attributes and Approaches to Learning (ATL), we strive to create a nurturing environment where students grow into caring, principled, and responsible global citizens.
