Celebrating World Environment Day – A Step Closer to Nature
Just before closing of the school for summer vacations, to mark the occasion of World Environment Day, students at Scottish High International School decided to celebrate the day by taking a solemn pledge to protect the environment. They committed themselves to reducing plastic use, conserving natural resources, planting more trees, and inspiring others to adopt sustainable habits. This collective promise set a thoughtful and purposeful tone for the day.
The celebrations continued with a refreshing Nature Walk across the school campus. Students explored the vibrant flora and fauna around them, becoming familiar with various medicinal and indigenous plants such as Neem, Tulsi, Aloe Vera, Amla, Mint, Lemongrass, Curry Patta, Belpatra, Moringa, and more. Teachers and the green brigade of the school explained the ecological and health benefits of these species, encouraging students to connect with nature more deeply.
In their classrooms, students engaged in a range of environment-focused activities. These included interactive quizzes, Powerpoint presentation sessions, and meaningful discussions around this year’s global theme – “Beat Plastic Pollution.” The activities fostered awareness and critical thinking about the environmental crisis caused by plastic waste and empowered them to act as mindful guardians of the Earth.
