A French native speaker session was organized for IBDP students focusing on the theme of technology as part of their ongoing unit- Human Ingenuity by Ms Neha Gupta on Tuesday, 24th March 2026. The session aimed to enhance students’ linguistic competence while deepening their understanding of contemporary technological issues from a francophone perspective.
The speaker engaged students in a dynamic discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of technology. Key benefits highlighted included improved communication, access to information, and innovations in education and healthcare. At the same time, the session thoughtfully addressed concerns such as overdependence on devices, data privacy, reduced face-to-face interaction, and the impact of social media on mental well-being.
Particular emphasis was placed on how technology shapes the current generation. Students explored how digital tools influence their daily lives, learning habits, and social relationships. The discussion encouraged critical thinking, allowing students to express their opinions, agree or disagree respectfully, and build arguments in French.
The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating in discussions, asking questions, and sharing personal experiences. Activities were designed to promote spontaneous speaking and listening skills, making the learning experience both engaging and meaningful.
The session concluded with an interactive “pour ou contre la technologie” debate, fostering ATL skills such as communication and critical thinking, while strengthening conceptual understanding and international-mindedness in line with IB pedagogy.
Overall, the session was fruitful and enriching. Students responded positively and showed enthusiasm throughout, indicating both enjoyment and effective learning. Such interactions with native speakers continue to play a vital role in developing confidence, cultural awareness, and real-world language application among IBDP learners.
