The heat of Assembly elections is on. This was evident as Highlanders got the opportunity to be a part of the talk by Ms Ruchi Hajela- Media expert, Research Scholar, Oxford University. Focusing on the rampant scourge of fake news and information doing rounds in media, Ms Hajela presented her exhaustive survey “Political News & Information in Indian Elections: Analysis of the Pre-Election Period”
The survey uncovered ‘foul play’ by some political parties, where tampered pictures, photoshopped images, fake news and articles were being circulated to manipulate voters for their own political mileage.
Truly, a very relevant session in times when we as citizens must be aware of the authenticity of information floating around us.
