Writing an Effective Letter Of Recommendation

An insightful professional development session for the Grade XII teachers on “Writing an Effective Letter

of Recommendation”, was conducted by the Head of Counselling Department, Dr. Neha Singh Maurya

on September 10th, 2026.

The session focused on equipping teachers with the skills and understanding required to draft meaningful,

specific, and impactful Letters of Recommendation. Dr. Neha discussed the structure of a well-written

LoR, highlighting the key elements that make a recommendation strong, authentic, and student-specific.

The session further explored the anatomy of a strong LoR, including the importance of using relevant

keywords, highlighting a student’s individual aptitude, strengths, achievements, skills, and potential, and

tailoring each recommendation to reflect the unique profile of the student. Dr. Neha also discussed

important points to keep in mind while writing an LoR, ensuring that recommendations remain specific,

evidence-based, and impactful.

An important aspect of the session was the discussion on the LoR request process, providing clarity on

how teachers can timely respond to student requests and gather the relevant information required to write

a comprehensive recommendation through bragsheets.

The session served as a valuable platform for professional learning and reflection, empowering teachers

to contribute more effectively to students’ academic and future opportunities through thoughtful and

personalised recommendations.
