As part of its commitment to providing meaningful global learning experiences, Scottish High International School organised an educational tour to Japan for 21 Highlanders from Grades VI to XII in collaboration with EdTerra. Accompanied by Ms. Pratibha Abrol, Ms. Kiran, and one journey mentor from EdTerra , the students travelled from 06 June 2026 to 14 June 2026. The nine-day programme took students across several prominent destinations, including Tokyo, Nagoya, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Kobe, and Osaka. Through visits to cultural landmarks, historical sites, world-class museums, and scenic locations, students gained valuable insights into Japan’s society, values, and way of life. The journey began in Tokyo, where students visited the historic Senso-ji Temple and gained insights into Japanese traditions and cultural practices. They also participated in a calligraphy workshop, gaining hands-on experience of a traditional Japanese art form. A visit to the Ginza district offered a glimpse into the modern and vibrant side of Japanese city life. One of the highlights of the trip was the visit to the JAXA Space Centre, where students explored Japan’s achievements in space research and technology. The group then travelled towards the Mount Fuji region. Although adverse weather conditions prevented a visit to the Fifth Station as originally planned, students were able to enjoy spectacular views of Mount Fuji and appreciate its significance in Japanese culture. They also visited Oshino Hakkai, a charming traditional village known for its crystal-clear ponds and scenic surroundings. The visit provided students with an authentic glimpse into local food, rural Japanese life and local traditions. The journey continued to Nagoya, where students visited the SCMAGLEV and Railway Park. They learnt about the evolution of Japan’s railway network and experienced exhibits showcasing the country’s world renowned Shinkansen and Maglev technology. The group also explored the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology. Travelling aboard the Shinkansen itself was a memorable experience, providing a firsthand understanding of Japan’s advanced transportation systems and reinforcing many of the concepts encountered during the museum visits. A brief visit to Kyoto University offered valuable exposure to the academic environment of one of Japan’s most prestigious institutions of higher education. The visit to Hiroshima was one of the most moving experiences of the tour. Students learnt about the devastating impact of the atomic bombing.
