On February 22nd, 2023, the Group IV Facilitators conducted an orientation program for the XII IBDP students of Batch 2022-24, aimed at introducing them to their upcoming Group IV project, a collaborative and multidisciplinary activity that aims to encourage DP science students to appreciate the environmental, social, and ethical implications of science. The project is aligned with Aims 7, 8, and 10 of the Group IV subjects, which focuses on promoting an understanding of the relationships between scientific disciplines and the overarching nature of the scientific method, and raising awareness of the moral, ethical, social, economic, and environmental implications of using science and technology. During the introduction, students discussed a mock planning and timeline for the project, with emphasis on the inquiry process and collaboration, rather than the final product. Guidelines for various Group IV activities were also discussed, and students were given the opportunity to share their ideas for the topic of the project. This project offers a chance for IBDP students to apply their collaborative scientific skills while adhering to the IB framework.
Overall, the Group 4 project is a great opportunity for IBDP students to develop a better understanding of the environmental, social, and ethical implications of science, and to work collaboratively with their peers to complete a project that aligns with the Group IV subject’s objectives.
