It is best to encounter a battle with a calm approach, a great sense of confidence and a feeling of equal empowerment. Because often times, the mental battle begins prior to any physical confrontation. The self-awareness of inner calm and action can be achieved by going through a disciplined physical and mental training.
Recently, at SHIS, we hosted a very special workshop on ‘Women Self Defense on Women Safety’ as part of the Government of India’s initiated program, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. This campaign has been introduced by three eminent groups to further the cause of empowering women – in collaboration with the District Administration of Gurgaon along with the internationally renowned ‘Red Cross Society’ humanitarian organization and the Open Hand Combat on Women/Girl Self-Defense.
The program was conducted by Mr. Maula and Mr. Osho Kalia in our world-class multi-utility auditorium for girls, classes VI and onwards.

And it’s that time again. As 2016 draws to a close, the School Annual Day is our grandest tribute to the year that was and the fantastic moments that made it so special.
This Annual Day was ample proof of the commitment, effort, belief and talent we hold so dear. From creative costumes and plays to acrobatic performances, our Highlanders gave it their all to put on a fantastic show. Each day at Scottish High is crafted to give every Highlander a shot at being the best, and this event was a great showcase of the people and skills that make this school what it is.

The Derozio Award for Education and Human Enrichment, instituted by CISCE, is given to Principals and teachers. It is awarded to honour and motivate people to serve the nation in a manner that clearly defines leadership in an identified sphere.

At Scottish High, we place equal importance on all disciplines of learning. We recognize that at the highest levels art is a science and, conversely, science is an art. Last week, Highlanders from classes VI to XII payed homage to the great subject with an organized ‘’. Featuring bright minds from these grades, the students worked through their science classes to create a visual Science experience featuring models, charts, and banners.

Parents were invited to take a tour as their wards enthusiastically explained their work displaying great imagination, confidence, and creativity.

In line with the zeitgeist, some of the highlights were based on non-conventional energy sources with working models for solar cities, home security systems and even a cooling pad for laptops using plastic bottles.

Health and sanitation were also high on the list with a hand sanitizer made from easily available chemicals and the making of a mosquito repellent. A robotics display, a glimpse into the future, makes for a special mention entertaining the audience both young and older alike.

We are honoured to be named as the top-three school in Delhi-NCR by the Times School Survey, 2016. We’ve always believed that greatness follows value and this recognition is a testament to that faith. The objective of this research was to arrive at a list of top schools in each zone in Delhi NCR. The study had three major modules i.e. Desk Research, Factual survey & Perceptual Rating Survey.
A perceptual sample survey was conducted in different zones and the geographical spread of the sample was ensured by selecting multiple starting points spread across the city.
The survey team believes – Schools that have been around for a while, are respected by the community for their academic performance and infrastructure, and are generally viewed as the best. For the purpose of this research only schools that have had at least three batches of class XII graduates were considered for this ranking – the intensive research makes the Times School Survey an excellent reference point for all parents.

It’s never too late to learn. Twenty faculty members from SHIS attended a workshop on ‘Sharing Best Practices’ at O. P. Jindal Global University, Sonepat on 13th July. Conducted by General Kochar, Dr Sanjeev Shani, Ms Payal Chokker, and Mr Bhanu Prakash – the workshop explored scientific and emotional ways of handling stress to increase efficiency.

The workshop was divided into two sessions. First, Gen. Kochar initiated the session introducing us to the aim and mission of OP Jindal institute after which Dr. Sahni took the session forward speaking about the essence of human behaviour and how to analyze and interpret it.

Ms Chokker and Mr Bhanu introduced the concept and significance of ‘Mindfulness’ and how teachers can use it to the students’ benefit. The delegation then received certificates following an interactive Q&A session.

The ‘Gallery Walk’ is an annual event that allows students to be actively engaged in the process of learning. Supported by photographs and examples, students describe their ideas, environment and learning processes as they walk their parents through the classroom.

The Gallery Walk sees students find new ways of expression when they use their knowledge to organize their own thoughts and present them with confidence.

To express their love and gratitude towards their Grandparents Kindergarten children of Scottish High International School celebrated their Grandparents Day on 15.9.16 with full zeal and gusto.

Our footballers make us proud, again!

All three Scottish High age group teams, under 14, 17 and 19, have won their respective inter-district tournaments and will now represent Gurgaon in the inter-state competition.

But that’s not all.

The school won the District SAI Championship, qualified for and won the states, before 9 students from the school represented Haryana in the national competition where they, take a guess, won again! The final, televised on Doordarshan Sports, was held at the Commonwealth Village in Ghaziabad.

Teacher’s day is a very important day for every student as they get to thank their mentors for all the hard work and effort they put in to shape their personality. A special assembly was conducted by the students of Kindergarten of Scottish High International School on 5.9.16 to make their teachers feel good and special. Children also witnessed teachers participating whole heartedly in the various games and dance competitions.

Our ability to express determines our ability to experience.

The Nursery students at Scottish High recently had the opportunity to harness their innate storytelling skills in a workshop, ‘How we express ourselves’, organized by the Initial Department.

These fantastic young orators floored the audience with their poise and clarity of communication, costumes and props adding to the theatre. The Young Highlanders then organized themselves into a ‘human graph’ plotting various book genres against their levels of popularity.

They soon went a step further, interpreting the date and identifying the most loved genre in their class. If this session was anything to go by, we have some star potential in our ranks, ready to take on the world with just the right amount of flourish.

Exposure to international learning is all about experiencing, learning about and from, engaging with and learning to be at ease and comfortable with ‘others’. With an intent to be open-minded, respectful and mindful of the fact that other people with their differences, can also be right, the Early Years PYP students of Scottish High International School celebrated the International week from 22nd to 26th August, 2016, with full gusto.

While some explored the culture and traditions of different countries through food eaten and festivals celebrated in different countries, others were encouraged to share their experience of visiting a popular monument and what it stands for. Others were seen delving into global issues like Pollution, Water conservation and as young learners processed information shared by one and all, they gave their invaluable inputs for making Earth a better and greener place to live in for all and pledged to take necessary steps and advocate for the same. Some chose to delve into the values and leadership qualities of eminent personalities across the world, while others probed into the significance and importance of family for all and how one can stay connected with family members living in faraway places.

The young Highlanders also were seen exploring different dance forms and understanding the fine nuances of the techniques used in those; in the games class while learning about the popular sports played across the world they also delved into the fact that to demonstrate the spirit of sportsmanship and to be caring towards each other on the field is what the stuff champions are made of and in the music class they discovered how music has no language and unites the world.

Scottish High held its first ever Model United Nations (SHISMUN) on the weekend of the 20th – 21st of August. With over 400 students from 20 schools across the country, the event was graced by the presence of Mr. Siddarth Nath Singh, BJP National Secretary and spokesperson.

Welcoming the Chief Guest were School Chairman Dr. Cdr. Kartikay Saini and School Director Mrs. Sudha Goyal.

In line with the zeitgeist, terrorism dominated the discourse as student committees debated the issue of terrorism, defined the word ‘terrorist’, reiterated the fact that there was no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ terrorism, just an act of cowardice motivated by fear-mongering and a hunger for power.

A million cultures, languages and perspectives, all blended into one synchronous nation. We may have our differences, we do have our similarities, and we definitely have our dreams. Here’s one that all of us share.
Today is a day to celebrate everything about our lives and our country, a day to celebrate everyone who made this possible, and a day to remember that nothing we have can be taken for granted. Happy Independence Day, everyone! Jai Hind.

SHIS under 14 school cricket team has made us proud by winning the School District Cricket Competition and has also qualified for the State Championship.

SHIS under 14, under 17 and under 19 soccer teams have won the school district soccer championship in all the three categories and have qualified for the state championship.

Culture does for the world what the only culture can. The month of July saw Scottish High transform into a social science laboratory as we held a SAARC-themed exhibition.

Food, charts, map, clothes, performances and songs, each specially created to represent the unique nature of every SAARC nation, came together to create a special day. The highlight was a magnificent 3D model showing each nation in full glory with detailed topography, information about all the SAARC offices and political borders.

Few celebrations are complete without a skit and our senior students, not ones to fall behind, enacted the 18th SAARC Summit on the topic of ‘Deeper Integration for Peace and Security’. If you thought that was the icing on the cake, think again. The show was entirely organized by the students from classes VI-XII under the guidance of their teachers.

One small step for highlanders‬, one giant leap for mankind! A great day deserves a spot of paraphrasing after all.

Scottish High International School as a part of its career awareness program series organized a career workshop in association with KIC UnivAssist in its school premises. There were 11 U.S university representatives, to apprise students of classes IX-XII of opportunities available to them for Higher Education in the United States. The workshop began with a power point presentation on U.S admissions by Mr. Ganesh Kohli, followed by introduction and highlights of each university. These sessions were then followed by an interactive session where students met the University delegates.

The 150 minute seminar was an enriching experience for the highlanders, parents, teachers/counsellors to get so much information under one roof. 42 students from Lotus Valley along with their counsellor Shivani Joshi also attended the Fair.

Weaving their magic……

With an endeavour to open up a window to their imagination and to inculcate different feelings and emotions, the young learners of Nursery students of Scottish High International School have been delving into different genres of stories under the transdisciplinary theme- ‘How we express ourselves’. Having explored different ways of stories being narrated, recently the young ones were seen sharing their perspective of their most loved Story Character or a Disney Character through an oral presentation. All dressed up and carrying appropriate props, the confident presenters floored everyone with their self-management and communication skills. They not only created a great visual impact but generated enthusiasm and curiosity about story genres that they are yet to explore.

The beauty of the world lies in the diversity of the culture and its people….

Respect for other faith and inculcating religious tolerance is one thing that we aim at striving in Scottish High. Growing up to be global citizens of the world, the young Highlanders of Kindergarten displayed attributes of being open-minded while conducting a special assembly on the occasion of the festival ‘Eid –Il-Fitr’ on 5^th July’16. They shared about the significance of this festival, a day that marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. The little ones through a role play and a dance performance not only demonstrated the way people greet each other, what they wear and eat on this special day but with their actions helped in creating a spirit of peace, love and brotherhood!

Scottish High debut it’s own Masterchef-style cooking competition on campus. In an initiative to highlight the importance of food, specifically food conservation, young highlanders from ICSE Grades X A and X B went head-to-head in a bid to whip up the best and most nutritious high tea.

Dr. (Commander) Kartikey Saini, Chairman of the School, kicked off the event highlighting the importance of food conservation through a heartfelt video presentation before the young chefs got to work.

The quality and creativity of cooking was rivaled only by the quirky team names, ‘Bat Family’ and ‘Fault in our Cooking’ being notable mentions.

Another fun day at SHIS.

Scottish High International School held the Investiture Ceremony of the Student Council for the year 2016-17 on Tuesday the 12th of July, in the school auditorium.
The ceremony was attended by the Chairman Dr. Cdr. Kartikay Saini, school Director Mrs. Sudha Goyal and the parents. The ceremony commenced with a dance performance by the students. The School Director addressed the audience and shared the details about the fair procedure followed by the school in the selection of these students. Thereafter, the graduating student council was invited to hand over the flags and their responsibilities to the newly selected council members. The proud parents were then called upon the stage to confer upon their wards the sashes and the badges for their respective posts.
The sight of the new student council, on the stage, with their flags, sashes and badges, taking the oath of responsibility was truly graceful and mesmerizing. The oath was administered by the new Head Girl and the new Head Boy.
The ceremony came a close after the Chairman’s speech. He congratulated the proud parents as well as the new student council. He said that this is the best and the most unique student council in the history of Scottish High and the council members have set a benchmark for the other students to follow. The ceremony concluded with the singing of the school song and the National Anthem.

Safety is no accident. And that’s why we make a conscious effort to ensure our staff is fully prepared to respond to unexpected emergencies.

The First Aid training, held for the administrative and academic staff recently, helped our teams do just that. A one-hour training module complete with hands-on learning was led by Dr. Swaroop and included do’s and don’ts alongside a thorough session on Basic Life Support and CPR. A Q&A session completed the training with the participants pledging to spread the learning to other members of staff.

Breast cancer is real and early detection is essential to the best chance of recovery.

At Scottish High, we recognize that our brilliant team is essential to the learning experience and we do all we can to ensure its growth and wellbeing. Last week, Dr. Savita Arora, a professor in Oncology in Maulana Azad Medical College Delhi, led an interactive session on breast cancer for the ladies of the Scottish High team.

Topics covered included the increasing risk of break cancer a…longside preventive measures and early detection. Dr. Arora also encouraged the participants to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
